facebook - The good, the bad and the downright ugly

OK - finally my blog has a new home on a proper blogging site. Big thanks go out to Lynda for coming round (with cake!) and helping me get this set up, so I am a proper blogger at last! Facebook notes was only ever intended to be a temporary "holding site" for the information, whilst I transferred it all across from the giant dying beast that is MySpace. Anyway - this leads me neatly on to today's topic, which is all about Facebook. Let me elaborate. Now facebook, when it's fun can be the highlight of the day.Sadly it's not always like that, therefore I present to you today, in a random order, 10 things I hate about Facebook. 1) People who post endless links to music videos they like. Now I don't mean the odd one, here and there, that's nae bother. I mean people who at 2am decide it's time to post 20 in a row, telling us how great all these tracks are - total self-indulgence. No need! 2) Needy people who write statuses merely to garner atten...

Sparse Offerings

It seems the gap between blogs is growing - 7 days since the last one. I am still planning to move my blog elsewhere, Lynda is going to come round and show me what to do. Hopefully it will be slightly more successful than our last little attempt at doing something technical last night :-) No worries, we recovered the position, and it was all worth it to hear that Sonia classic again! A bit of a mixed and jumbled bag this blog today, just firing off a few random thoughts about the last few days and the days ahead. To begin with, Ollie started school full time last week and seems to love it. According to the teachers he is happy and doing well and I have had no complaints over behaviour. A shame the same cannot be said of home. This morning we had the usual aggro over breakfast, which culminated in him changing into his spare uniform. The one he was originally dressed in was in the washing machine before we even left for school - for which we were late. Anyway, now h...

Things To Do List: Monday

Or - a typical day in the life of Superdad... 7:30am: Wake up. Groan. Hear baby crying. Pretend to be asleep so wife gets up, taking full advantage of the "I worked last night" card. 8:30am: Get up. Make breakfast for children. Have a cup of tea. Check facebook for notifications, messages, likes etc - there are none (nobody loves me today). 9:00am: Sit at computer. Try and gain some motivation. 9:15am: Bath Ollie. 9:30am: Sort out paperwork. Ring school to see if can collect uniform yet. Still no answer. 9:45am: Go to Bank 10:00am: Buy the "Monday Ham" 10:15am: Return home. Fall over toys in hall. Make cup of coffee. Living room smells of poo. Change nappy. Empty bins. Put washload on. Put coffee on. Empty dishwasher. Go to toilet. Slip over on flood in toilet. 11:00am: Walk round to school to see if anyone is there to collect uniform. 11:45am: Drive round to pub to collect some equipment. Peer through window. Load up speakers etc into...

August Spring Clean

Me and Claire have been hard at it for two days now! Ha - that's got your attention. Sorry to disappoint, I'm not talking about my second favourite hobby, but in fact my least favourite. That great necessary evil we call housework. If, like me, you like to run a fairly tight ship, then you probably think you are on top of your housework. Every week you hoover round, do the kitchen surfaces, clean the bath and sink, get the skiddies off the bog, all that sort of thing. Keeping things running smoothly at a comfortable level of tidiness and cleanliness. It's only when you drill down deeper and do a "big clean" that the true horrors become apparent. Now we are having visitors on Saturday, and whilst I am sure they don't stand on ceremony, you want your house to look good on such occasions. So a big clean it is. And this is when you find those little bits you always miss - like the little bit round the back of the sink pedestal. You decide to...

Supermarket, Pub and TV shake up announced after new Government survey findings

Today I can make a major revelation. Since leaving Nielsen 6 and a half years ago, I have been living a double life. You see, all that time at the probation office and DJ'ing has in fact all been a front. I was in fact not made redundant by Nielsen at all - but in fact, identifed by the Government as Britain's leading market researcher. I was headhunted for a major research project. There I was walking up to McDonalds on Headington roundabout one winters day, with a view to popping into the bookies afterwards, when a large black limo drew up alongside and a dark voice uttered "Get in". I was driven to a top secret Government HQ where they revealed that they needed a brilliant researcher to find out what really makes the country tick, what was wrong with things, and how could it be fixed. They commissioned me there on the spot to carry out a 2 year study and report back my findings, all expenses paid. They even reimbursed me for a a winner I missed in...

Various Stuff

Good evening. Had some good news today. I have had a minor health scare and got the all clear at the Doctors today. It always was likely that it would be nothing - and so it turned out to be. However, I am glad I know. Only two people knew about this until now, but now I'm happy to mention it. It's not the sort of thing you broadcast. It is easy to imagine the worst in such situations, and if there is the slightest possibility of something that could be the #1 illness that we all dread then you have to get it checked out. I do know that men in particular are very good at ignoring problems, we've all heard "I haven't had day off work or been to the Doctors for 10 years". My advice is, if in any doubt, go! Hence my reason for mentioning it - if I inspire one person to go who is in a similar boat then I've done some good. Anyway I am A1, and got a double result today from the doctor who confirmed that my blood pressure is nicely under con...

August - the month of school holidays :-) and wasps :-(

Well we've officially passed the half way point of the summer holidays now and here we are in the middle of August. In fact, I am starting to get used to it now, having almost had a nervous breakdown during the first 2 weeks. One advantage of the long holidays is everything is starting to drift later. Once you kind of realise you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn and whizz around like a blue arsed fly, things start to become more relaxed. The kids bedtimes drift later, my bedtime drifts later, and lo and behold, we get the occasional day when everyone is still in bed at 9am. 9am!!! Might not sound much to some of you, but this is the equivalent of about midday for those of you without kids! I haven't been on for a few days as there's been a lot going on - I had to go to a wedding on Saturday, the less said about that the better, then we've had a fair flow of visitors over the last few days. I've also been out either working or even pla...
